WBBPE, West Bengal Board of Primary Education is an autonomous body of the state government which oversees primary education within the state. The board is involved in the recruitment process for primary teachers in West Bengal. The West Bengal Teacher Eligibility Test (WB TET) is a state level qualifying examination conducted by the WBBPE which is conducted in a year to determine the eligibility for teaching posts.

WB Teacher Eligibility Test (WB TET) 2025
The WB TET (West Bengal Teacher Eligibility Test) is conducted on a regular basis by the the WBBPE (West Bengal Board of Primary Education). The WBBPE work, under the terms of the order of the Department of School Education, Government of West Bengal. The WBTET is conducted for the purpose to recruit qualified trained candidates as a teacher in class I to V in various primary schools across the State. The candidates are appointed and recruited based on the criteria’s laid down by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
WB TET Exam Highlight
The WBTET was also introduced in keeping in mind the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. It also aimed to improve standards of education in such primary schools by appointing well qualified and efficient teachers.
The concept of TET was initiated by the Government of India during the year 2011 as a method to improve the quality of school teaching across India. Later, both the Central and State governments conduct the test individually.

Eligibility Criteria for Applying WB TET
To be eligible for the West Bengal Teacher Eligibility Test (WB TET), applicants must meet certain eligibility criteria, including educational qualification and age limit.
Education Qualification
- He / she must have passed Senior Secondary or its equivalent examination with at least 50% marks with two years Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
- OR
- Senior Secondary or its equivalent examination with at least 50% marks and four years Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, also known as B.El.Ed.
- OR
- Graduate or its equivalent examination plus two years Diploma in Elementary Education.
- OR
- Minimum 50% marks in Senior Secondary or its equivalent examination as well as Diploma in Education (Special Education), a course recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (R.C.I.).
Note: Reserved category applicants like SC / ST / OBC / EC / DAC / DH will get a relaxation of 5% marks, which is 45%.

WB TET Qualifying Marks 2024
The qualifying marks are the minimum marks which is required to qualify for the WB Primary Teacher Eligibility Test 2025 (WB TET) exam. Theses marks are prescribed by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education. Based on the category level these marks differs. As per official rules, candidates from General Category are need to score 60% which is 90 marks out of 150. While the qualifying marks for SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates has been set for 55% i.e. 82 marks out of 150.
WB TET Exam Pattern
The WB Primary TET exam is conducted offline (pen paper mode) consisting of 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each question carries 1 mark, the TET exam is worth 150 marks and the duration is 2.5 hours. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.
